Most dogs do best on a 4 to 8 week schedule. Longer, non-shedding coats need the shorter end of that range, while short-coated breeds are usually happy every 6 to 8 weeks for a bath, nails and ears. If you brush at home regularly you can often stretch the interval a little.

Every 4 to 6 weeks. Shih Tzu coats grow continuously and mat quickly around the ears, armpits and rear, so a regular haircut keeps them comfortable and prevents painful de-matting later.

Every 4 to 6 weeks. Maltese have fine, silky, fast-growing hair that tangles easily. Daily brushing at home plus a regular haircut keeps the coat bright and mat-free.

Every 4 to 6 weeks for a haircut, with baths in between if they get into things. Yorkies hold a soft, hair-like coat that grows all year, so consistent trims keep it manageable.

Every 4 to 6 weeks — no exceptions if you want to keep the length. Curly and wavy coats trap dead hair instead of shedding it, and without brushing at home they can mat to the skin in a matter of weeks.
